Cock rings tend to be a misunderstood sex toy. Often overlooked or thought of as purely a medical device, cock rings can also be used to heighten sensation, enhance appearance, and amplify orgasms. Sounds good to us!
To understand how a cock ring works, first you need to understand an erection.
When you get aroused, the brain sends signals to the specialised blood cells of the penis. The blood flow to the penis increases, the tissue expands, and muscles at the base of the penis contract to restrict circulation. The result is a penis that is firmer and enlarged.
How a cock ring works.
Cock rings work by restricting the blood flow and keeping blood in the shaft of the penis. Generally cock rings are worn around the base of the penis, but they can also be worn around the penis and the balls or worn just behind the glans (the head) of the penis.
Who uses cock rings?
Anyone who has a cock can use a cock ring!
Cock rings can be used to help with medical issues like erectile dysfunction, and can also be used to maintain erections that are hard to get or easily lost. Sometimes cock rings are used in combination with a vacuum penis pump. The pump increases blood flow to help create the erection and then the ring helps it stay maintained.
Despite its medical benefits, there are many people who enjoy cock rings for recreational use. Some people enjoy the restricting sensation of wearing a ring or seeing their penis in a larger and firmer state. Others enjoy being able to last longer during sex and report having more intense orgasms when wearing a ring. There is also the appeal of genital adornment, being able to decorate or dress the penis, and how cock rings can reposition genitals. Cock rings can be used with a partner or for masturbation. Vibrating cock rings can be an amazing sensation for the wearer and partner alike. Cock rings can also act as a depth limiting device during sex if your partner can’t handle to entire shaft of your penis. A great things for anal beginners!

How to use a cock ring.
Rings made out stretchy material, like silicone, simply strecth over the penis to the shaft. With enough stretch, these rings can be used before and during an erection. With harder materials, like metal, it’s advised to put them on before the penis gets hard. Place it on before the lube gets flowing to avoid the ring sliding around during playtime. The cock ring should feel firm but never painful. An uncomfortable ring maybe a sign that it’s too small. Only use a cock ring for 30 mins or less as prolonged use can cause nerve damage.
Tips to remember!
- Since sex sessions with a cock ring shouldn’t last over 30 mins, try setting a timer so you don’t have to keep your eye on the clock.
- Cock rings are generally harder to take off then put on. Keep that in mind to avoid any unnecessary panic.
- If your penis turns cold or a shade of purple/white, remove the ring immediately. That’s a sign that your ring is way too tight.
- Only use cock rings as cock rings. Don’t substitute with shower rings, key chains, rubber bands, plumbing fixtures, hair bands, or anything else that isn’t a cock ring. They weren’t designed for sexual use and most likely aren’t safe for it.
- If your penis remains enlarged for more than 30 mins after removing the cock ring, this may be signs of priapism. Though very rare with correct cock ring use, priapism is a prolonged erection where new blood can’t enter the penis). This can be damaging long term and you should make your way to the ER asap.
- Talk to your doctor before using a cock ring if you have cardiovascular problems or are taking a blood thinning medication.
